Texas State Fair
When: September 30-October 23
Where: 1945 Lagow Street, Dallas
Cost: $18
Make the trek down to Dallas for the annual Texas State Fair. We know you can’t resist the Chevy Main Stage with headline acts such as: Kacey Musgraves, Skillet, Nelly, and many more. Won’t that cost a pretty penny? Nope, these concerts are free with admission to the fair. Tip: visit the fair on a Thursday and take advantage of a plethora of food discounts. To get the full fair experience, make sure to meander through the barns of cows, goats, and pigs and watch a football game at the Cotton Bowl Stadium. Wondering who that large man is standing outside of the fairgrounds? That’s Big Tex, and he’s ready to give you a big southern welcome.
Movie in the park: “The Jungle Book”

Where: The Colony Five Star Complex
Relive your childhood with the remake of “The Jungle Book.” Fall has arrived and there is no better way to spend an evening than under a blanket with free popcorn in hand. Games and giveaways will occur throughout the evening, while concessions will be available for purchase.
Relay for Life
When: October 8
Time: 9AM-12PM
Where: Top Golf
Cost: $85 per person
Come out swinging—golf clubs—for the American Cancer Society. Your registration donation covers three hours of TopGolf games, a breakfast buffet, and a goodie bag. Make sure to participate in the silent auction bidding war before the event is over. Come on, it’s “fore hope.”
Family Fright Night
When: October 15-16
Time: 4PM-9AM
Where: Stewart Creek Park
Venture out into the woods for a spooky evening of Halloween fun. Kids should come dressed in their Halloween costumes, ready to wander down the haunted trail and feast on s’mores by the campfire. Make sure to pack bags of candy for tent trick or treating and earplugs for the scream contest. A hayride and a scary movie will round out the evening of frightful fun.
Nebraska Furniture Mart 5K Halloween Run/Walk
When: October 22
Time: 8:30AM
Where: Nebraska Furniture Mart
Cost: $35 per person
Jog into Halloween with a 5K. Everyone’s favorite furniture store is hosting a run/walk for The Samaritan Inn, an organization that is dedicated to fighting homelessness. Sign up your little ones for the kid fun run or have them keep the pace with you. Every participant will receive a t-shirt and finishing medal. Donned a good costume? There are prizes for the top three Halloween ensembles.
Haunted Shadows Lake Trail
When: Various weekends throughout October
Time: 7:00PM-12AM
Where: Lake Lewisville, Blue Sky Sports Center
Cost: $23
It’s dark, there are noises everywhere in the woods, and the hair on the back of your neck is standing straight up. You can barely see what’s in front of your face and you’re worried you might pee your pants. Sound fun? Then get your tickets now for the Haunted Shadows Lake Trail. We’re not sure who haunts the trails of the old Brody farm, but we know they’re out for blood. Take friends to hide behind. We hope you make it back alive.
